December 2008
Preparing to fix a 30+ item meal tonight for 10 people. We’re doing a late traditional Italian Christmas Eve menu. Menu PDF is almost ready!
Sipping some Calvados brandy to the sounds of big band holiday music & Michelle’s dad grilling out back.
First time on Hartford bus system. Woman just puked down the front of me.
At least after the bus, we got to fight crowds at the mall. Wait, that’s also terrible.
Wheels down in Hartford!
Just touched down in Atlanta. Couple hours here, then off to Hartford.
Out the door at 7:00 and just now got on the PDX parking shuttle. Not flying until noon — things are looking great!
Already through security. Unbelievably smooth day so far.
Optimistic about flying out of PDX tomorrow, but anyone want to bet me we’ll be delayed? Then, either way, I come out ahead.
Man, physical therapists have the weirdest stuff around the workplace. It’s like a rumpus room for injured people.
Sometimes I wonder why I browse local AP headlines, but then headlines like “Young woman shot in the buttocks near Corvallis” remind me.
Just got Michelle into work. Drove 15 miles of I-5 and saw six vehicles in the median.
Just talked with a trucker about iPhone app ideas.
Roads aren’t too bad today — had a few miles of exposed pavement on I-5. Worst part is pothole-like ice — can’t go over 15-20mph.
Apparently there is great fun to be had in alternatingly pulling your friend’s stuck 4x4 out of a field, then having yourself pulled out.
Just got home for good. Up in six hours to take Michelle to work. Hope it doesn’t snow too much more.
I’m now waiting for a burger. We were just offered shots of “Snakebite” on the house and Santa just gave Michelle a condom. Surreal day.

Finally out of the car. Been driving since 2pm and did probably 50 miles. Picked up Michelle from work. I-5 was closed. Dinner.
I’ve been on a 15-mile roundtrip pickup mission for 3.5 hours.
Travel crises like this, when public transportation is out, roads have restriction in effect, etc. is when crappy websites really shine.
This open source media center app is really stunning: http://xbmc.org/ I had never heard of it, but it’s really fun to use.
Helpful tip to Trimet: don’t make all bus routes the same color. Trying to read downtown is a mess. http://tinyurl.com/a4tnvv [PDF]
Helpful iPhone spelling suggestion: “cowtown”. Really, iPhone?
Just made the drive back. Saw three separate people blow by at absurd speeds; later saw all three off the road, one on its side.
It’s like, dudes, assume no real control and be pleasantly surprised if otherwise. Slow the eff down!
Thankful that this time of year, bad drivers are the only thing stressing me out. Been a good year full of travel, fun work, & friends.
Currently trying to figure out how best to get @mullr’s wife home from PDX after finally getting back from three days delayed in Nevada.
Just drove 30 miles of I-5. Roads aren’t slick; the worst part is washboard ice and unplowed snow ridges that scrape the bottom of the car.
I did see five vehicles who had done 180s off the road, plus plenty with snow all over their roof & windows. Lot of cell phone users, too?!?
Playing around with Qu-s. Interesting concept and a very different application. http://www.qu-s.eu
I take back what I said about leafblowers. Michelle had a coworker who saw a guy trying to melt parking lot snow with a leafblower today.
Helped an elderly neighbor take her trash out yesterday; couldn’t get past her doorstep because of ice. Where are all those leafblowers now?
Woohoo! Dug the car out and took it for a drive around town. As long as we avoid freezing rain, tomorrow should be decent.
Monopoly Repackaging | Andy Mangold →
Monopoly, in spite being the classiest of all board games, unfortunately is packaged just as boringly and uncreatively as every other garbage board game on the shelves. So, I decided to repackage…

Use my software? I’ve just soft-launched my support forums at http://codesorcery.net/forums, including topic voting. Have a look around!
Just saw a snowshoer with ski poles go by.
I love walking in the snow, actually. Glad I don’t have to go anywhere far, until Thursday flight at least. Also enjoyed shoveling yesterday
Right about when the shoveling gets old, I’ll be in Hartford and helping my in-laws shovel some real snow, so look for the flipside then.
It’s hard not to get snow fever. Michelle’s clinic was closed by 7am, we still can’t get the car out, and no one is on the road. Crazy.
At this point I’m wondering if we will still be able to get up to, then fly out of, PDX on Thursday.
